There is something particularly beautiful about leaving the clay as clay.
This Ganpati is hand-formed from natural shadu maati and left unpainted, allowing the texture, marks and warm earthy character of the material to remain visible. The only touches of colour are the traditional details that give expression to the murti.
Made by traditional kumhar artisans, every piece carries the small variations of the hands that shaped it. Look closely and you may see subtle differences in the clay surface, features or finish. They aren't defects to be hidden; they are part of the story of something made individually rather than manufactured to be identical.
Like the painted Ganpati, this is not intended as a permanent murti. It is made for worship during Ganesh Chaturthi and for the traditional act of visarjan afterwards, with natural shadu clay that can return gently to the earth through appropriate home immersion.

Made by hand means made individually
Our natural shadu Ganpatis are sourced from small kumhar families, where the work is still done in the traditional way. No two pieces emerge completely identical.
Because this version is unpainted, the variation is subtler than with our painted Ganpati — you may notice small differences in the clay tone, texture, expression, detailing or finish from the piece photographed here.
We could photograph them until every grain of clay looked immaculate — and our photographers would probably enjoy trying — but perfection isn't really the point here. This is a devotional object shaped by human hands, not typical merchandise manufactured to a tolerance.

This is a dissolving clay murti, intended for immersion. We do not sell a permanent murti — if you want one to keep, this is not it, and immersing it is the point.

Ganpati Guidance — Completing the Journey
Bringing Bappa home is only one half of the tradition. Visarjan completes the journey.
Our Ganpatis are made from shadu maati precisely with that moment in mind. At the end of your celebration, the clay can be immersed at home and allowed to return gradually to the earth — a simple way to observe the tradition while respecting the environment around us.
For home visarjan, place your Ganpati gently into a clean bucket or tub filled with tap water. Allow the murti time to soften and dissolve naturally; depending on the conditions, this may take several hours.
Once the clay has dispersed, the water can be returned to the earth — for example, by pouring it around your garden or houseplants.
A small but important UK note: please don't immerse your Ganpati directly into a river, canal, lake or the sea. Depositing material into open water is regulated in the UK, so public immersion should only take place through an appropriately organised event.
There is something rather lovely about the whole cycle: clay shaped by hand, welcomed into the home, worshipped, immersed, and finally returned to the earth.
