Mirror-Work Chaniya Choli — Scarlet & Black

A striking play of scarlet and black, brought to life with mirrors, colour and traditional craft.

A vibrant scarlet choli meets a sweeping black skirt, with the real drama concentrated exactly where the two come together. The yoke is embroidered edge to edge in vivid multicolour thread and mirror work — a procession of elephants across the top giving way to richly mirrored panels below. A scalloped finish with tiny white bead drops adds movement, while matching embroidered cuffs carry the detailing beautifully through the sleeves.

The skirt begins in deep, uninterrupted black, allowing the elaborate waistband to command attention before opening into a spectacular series of upright panels at the hem. Navy, dark green, ivory and red create a patchwork of colour, each panel decorated with either a proud peacock or a fan of densely worked mirrors. Along the very bottom, a continuous row of elephants completes the design with an unmistakably folk-inspired flourish.

The contrast is what makes this piece: bold scarlet against black, restrained fabric against intricate workmanship, and flashes of mirror that come alive as the skirt moves.
